Family Resources

a Minnesota licensed non-profit adoption agency

The Russian Program

Family Resources has placed international children into loving homes throughout the United States.  We work with a team of dedicated representatives that visit the orphanages, obtain photographs and video tapes when available, and the  history and medical of the children available for adoption.  The representatives later facilitate the visit in the country, arrange accommodations, and escort the family through the entire process once they have arrived in the adoptive child’s country.

The Russian program that Family Resources offers is selected with the best intention to ensure the adoptive families a worry free adoption.  We will walk you through the entire international adoption from start to finish.  This includes home study services, helping to locate a home study agency outside of Minnesota, assistance with INS, helping you with travel arrangements, and post placement services.

Requirements

The program accepts both married couples and single women.  It requires that both parents travel to Russia.  One parent may return home after the court hearing while the other parent stays to finish the documentation and paperwork with the American Embassy.

In regard to age, one parent must be under 60 years of age and over the age of 25 years.  Couples  must be married for at least 2 years, and in the case of a divorce parent, the divorce must be finalized for 2 years prior to the adoption.  Parents are asked to show proof of good health, financial ability to support a child(ren), and good standing in the community.

Process

All families must complete a home study or the requirements for their state's adoption laws, and INS-600A application and receive an INS approval, and a dossier of documents required by the court in the region from which their child will be adopted.  The information for the dossier will be addressed after the child selection is made to assure that the proper documentation is made for that child.

Our Children from Russia

Our children are all waiting parents in Russian orphanages; they have been released from the regional databank and are freed for international adoption.  Most children available are between the ages of 6 months and 7 years of age.  Children older than 7 years are available upon request.  Most of our children are reasonably healthy given the nutritional problems that affect the children of Russia at this time.  A few special needs children are available upon request.  Fees on special needs children are reduced from the usual fees.

Travel

In most cases two trips are required.  The first trip is usually 5 to 7 days, including travel.  During the first trip you meet your child.  The second trip which includes the court hearing is usually 7 to 10 days.  In some regions, courts will not waive the 10-day waiting period, required by Russian law, and a parent may need to stay up to 2 weeks.  Escorts will pick parents up from the airport, travel to and from the region, and return them to the airport at the time of boarding to return home.
